Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) are designated regions in the United Kingdom recognized for their exceptional landscape quality. These areas are protected to conserve their natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural heritage, allowing for sustainable development and public enjoyment. AONBs are managed by local authorities and conservation organizations, ensuring that their unique features are preserved for future generations.
There are currently 46 AONBs in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, covering about 18% of the land area in England. Each AONB has its own distinct character, showcasing diverse landscapes such as rolling hills, coastal cliffs, and picturesque villages, making them popular destinations for outdoor activities and tourism.
