Apraxia
Apraxia is a neurological disorder that affects a person's ability to perform purposeful movements, even when they have the desire and physical capability to do so. It often results from damage to the brain, particularly in areas responsible for planning and coordinating movements. Individuals with apraxia may struggle with tasks like buttoning a shirt or waving goodbye, despite understanding the actions involved.
There are different types of apraxia, including ideomotor apraxia, where a person has difficulty executing movements on command, and ideational apraxia, where they struggle to carry out a sequence of actions. Treatment typically involves therapy to improve motor skills and enhance communication between the brain and body.
