Aponeurosis
Aponeurosis is a type of connective tissue that serves as a flat, broad tendon. It connects muscles to the parts they move, such as bones or other muscles. Unlike regular tendons, which are cord-like, aponeuroses spread out over a larger area, providing a wide attachment point for muscles.
These structures are found in various parts of the body, including the abdomen and the scalp. For example, the galea aponeurotica is an aponeurosis located on the top of the skull, connecting the frontalis and occipitalis muscles. Aponeuroses play a crucial role in facilitating movement and maintaining structural integrity.
