Apollo Command Module
The Apollo Command Module was a key component of NASA's Apollo program, designed to transport astronauts to and from the Moon. It housed three astronauts during missions and was equipped with life support systems, navigation controls, and communication equipment. The module was cone-shaped, allowing it to withstand the intense heat of re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.
The Command Module was launched atop a Saturn V rocket and separated from the Service Module once in lunar orbit. After completing its mission, it re-entered Earth's atmosphere, splashed down in the ocean, and was recovered by the U.S. Navy.
