Aortic Override
Aortic override is a condition where the aorta, the large artery that carries blood from the heart to the body, is positioned directly over the ventricular septum, the wall separating the heart's left and right ventricles. This anatomical arrangement can occur in certain congenital heart defects, such as tetralogy of Fallot.
In aortic override, the aorta receives blood from both ventricles instead of just the left ventricle. This can lead to mixed oxygenated and deoxygenated blood entering the systemic circulation, potentially causing various health issues, including reduced oxygen delivery to the body's tissues.
