Antimony Oxides
Antimony oxides are chemical compounds formed by the combination of antimony with oxygen. The most common forms are antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) and antimony pentoxide (Sb2O5). These compounds are primarily used as flame retardants in various materials, including plastics and textiles, due to their ability to inhibit combustion.
In addition to their use in fire safety, antimony oxides are also utilized in the production of glass and ceramics, where they enhance properties like opacity and durability. They can be found in some pigments and are important in the electronics industry for their conductive properties.
