Anomie
Anomie is a sociological concept that refers to a state of normlessness or a breakdown of social norms and values within a society. It occurs when individuals feel disconnected from the collective conscience, leading to feelings of isolation and confusion. This can happen during times of rapid social change, economic upheaval, or when traditional values are challenged.
The term was popularized by the sociologist Émile Durkheim, who studied its effects on social cohesion and individual behavior. Anomie can contribute to various social issues, including increased crime rates, mental health problems, and a general sense of disillusionment among individuals in a community.
