Annexin
Annexin refers to a family of proteins that play a crucial role in various cellular processes, including cell signaling, membrane trafficking, and apoptosis (programmed cell death). These proteins are known for their ability to bind to phospholipids in the presence of calcium ions, which helps in stabilizing cellular membranes and facilitating communication between cells.
In addition to their role in normal cellular functions, Annexins are also involved in pathological conditions, such as inflammation and cancer. Researchers study these proteins to better understand their functions and potential therapeutic applications, including their use as biomarkers for certain diseases.
