Anne of Denmark was born on December 12, 1574, in Skanderborg, Denmark. She was the daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark and Queen Sophie of Mecklenburg. In 1589, she married James VI of Scotland, who later became James I of England after the union of the crowns in 1603.
As queen consort, Anne played a significant role in the cultural life of the court, supporting the arts and promoting the construction of the Banqueting House in Whitehall Palace. She was also known for her interest in fashion and her patronage of various artists and architects during her reign.
