Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet was a 17th-century poet and the first published female writer in colonial America. Born in England in 1612, she emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony with her family in 1630. Her work reflects her experiences as a woman, wife, and mother in a Puritan society.
Bradstreet's poetry often explores themes of love, faith, and the challenges of life. Her most famous collection, The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America, was published in 1650. Through her writing, she gained recognition and paved the way for future female authors in a time when women's voices were often marginalized.
