Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs
The Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs are ancient rock carvings located in the Philippines, specifically in the municipalities of Angono and Binangonan in Rizal Province. Discovered in 1965, these petroglyphs are believed to date back to around 3000 B.C., making them one of the oldest known artworks in the country. The site features over 100 human and animal figures, which provide valuable insights into the prehistoric culture of the region.
Designated as a National Cultural Treasure, the petroglyphs are carved into a rock face and are thought to have been created by early inhabitants of the area. The carvings are significant for understanding the artistic expression and spiritual beliefs of ancient Filipinos. Preservation efforts are ongoing to protect this important archaeological site from natural and human-induced damage.
