Androgen
Androgens are a group of hormones that play a key role in male traits and reproductive activity. The most well-known androgen is testosterone, which is produced primarily in the testes in males and in smaller amounts in females by the ovaries and adrenal glands. Androgens are responsible for the development of male characteristics such as facial hair, deep voice, and muscle growth.
In addition to their role in male development, androgens also influence various bodily functions in both men and women. They help regulate libido, bone density, and fat distribution. An imbalance in androgen levels can lead to health issues, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women and conditions like hypogonadism in men.
