Andrey Markov
Andrey Markov was a Russian mathematician born on June 14, 1856, in Ryazan, Russia. He is best known for his work in probability theory and for developing the concept of Markov chains, which are mathematical systems that undergo transitions from one state to another on a state space. His contributions laid the groundwork for various fields, including statistics, economics, and computer science.
Markov's most significant work, published in 1906, focused on stochastic processes, where future states depend only on the current state and not on the sequence of events that preceded it. This property is known as the Markov property. He passed away on July 20, 1922, leaving a lasting impact on mathematics and its applications.
