Anconeus
The Anconeus is a small, triangular muscle located at the back of the elbow. It originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus and attaches to the ulna. This muscle plays a role in extending the forearm and stabilizing the elbow joint during movement.
In addition to its primary function in extension, the Anconeus assists in pronation and supination of the forearm. It is often considered a synergist to the larger triceps brachii muscle, working together to facilitate smooth arm movements. Understanding the Anconeus is important for comprehending elbow mechanics and addressing related injuries.
