Ananias Dare
Ananias Dare was a 16th-century Englishman known for his role in the early settlement of Roanoke Island in present-day North Carolina. He was one of the first colonists to arrive in the New World as part of the Roanoke Colony, which was established in 1585. Ananias was a member of the expedition led by Sir Walter Raleigh and served as a planter and trader.
Dare is often remembered for his connection to the mysterious disappearance of the Roanoke Colony. He was the father of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in America. The colony faced numerous challenges, including food shortages and conflicts with local tribes, leading to its eventual abandonment.
