Amrita Pritam
Amrita Pritam was a renowned Indian author and poet, born on August 31, 1919, in Gujranwala, now in Pakistan. She is celebrated for her contributions to Punjabi literature and is known for her poignant poetry and novels that often explore themes of love, loss, and identity. Pritam's work reflects her experiences during the partition of India, which deeply influenced her writing.
Throughout her career, Pritam received numerous accolades, including the Jnanpith Award and the Padma Bhushan. She was the first woman to receive the Jnanpith Award in 1982. Her most famous work, "Pinjar," addresses the struggles of women during the partition, showcasing her commitment to social issues and women's rights.
