American Woodcock
The American Woodcock is a small, migratory bird found in North America, particularly in wooded areas and wetlands. It has a distinctive, plump body, long bill, and large eyes positioned high on its head, which helps it spot predators. The bird's plumage is mottled brown and gray, providing excellent camouflage against the forest floor.
During the breeding season, the male performs a unique aerial display, flying high and then descending while producing a series of melodic calls. This behavior is part of its courtship ritual to attract females. The American Woodcock primarily feeds on earthworms and insects, probing the ground with its long bill.
