American Wigeon
The American Wigeon is a medium-sized dabbling duck found primarily in North America. Males are easily recognizable by their distinctive green head patch, white crown, and chestnut-colored breast. Females are mottled brown with a subtle pattern, making them less conspicuous.
These ducks prefer shallow wetlands, marshes, and ponds, where they feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and grasses. During migration, the American Wigeon travels to southern regions, including parts of Mexico and Central America, to escape the cold winter months. They are known for their whistling calls and social behavior, often seen in large flocks.
