American Viticultural Areas
American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) are designated wine grape-growing regions in the United States. These areas are defined by specific geographic boundaries and unique climate, soil, and topography characteristics that influence the quality and style of the wine produced. AVAs can range in size from a few acres to thousands of acres.
To be labeled as an AVA, at least 85% of the grapes used in the wine must come from that specific area. This designation helps consumers identify the origin of the wine and understand its potential flavor profile, making it easier to choose wines that suit their preferences.
