American Medical Education
American medical education typically begins with a four-year undergraduate degree, often with a focus on science courses. Afterward, students attend a medical school for another four years, where they learn about human anatomy, pharmacology, and clinical skills. This education culminates in earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Following medical school, graduates enter a residency program, which lasts between three to seven years, depending on the specialty. During this time, they gain hands-on experience in hospitals and clinics under the supervision of experienced physicians. After completing residency, they may pursue further training through fellowships in specialized areas.
