The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) was a labor union representing professionals in the television and radio industries. Founded in 1937, it aimed to protect the rights and interests of its members, including actors, announcers, and other media professionals. AFTRA negotiated contracts, ensured fair wages, and provided benefits for its members. In 2012, AFTRA merged with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to form the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). This merger strengthened the union's ability to advocate for its members across various media platforms, enhancing their collective bargaining power and support.
