American Avocet
The American Avocet is a wading bird known for its striking appearance and long, slender legs. It has a distinctive black-and-white plumage, with a long, upward-curving bill that it uses to forage for food in shallow waters. These birds are commonly found in wetlands, marshes, and along the edges of lakes and rivers across North America.
During the breeding season, the American Avocet displays a beautiful rusty-colored head and neck. They are social birds, often seen in flocks, and are known for their unique courtship displays. Their diet mainly consists of small invertebrates, which they catch by sweeping their bills through the water.
