Ambracian League
The Ambracian League was an ancient Greek confederation formed in the 4th century BCE, primarily consisting of cities in the region of Ambrakia. It was established to promote mutual defense and cooperation among its member states, which included Ambrakia, Leukas, and Anactorium. The league played a significant role in regional politics and military alliances during its existence.
The league was notable for its opposition to the growing power of Epirus and the influence of Macedonia. It sought to maintain autonomy and protect its members from external threats. The Ambracian League eventually declined in power, particularly after the rise of larger Hellenistic states.
