Alves dos Reis
Alves dos Reis was a Portuguese con artist known for his involvement in one of the largest bank frauds in Portugal's history during the early 20th century. He forged banknotes of the Banco de Portugal and managed to circulate millions of escudos before being caught. His elaborate scheme highlighted vulnerabilities in the banking system of the time.
Born in 1880, Alves dos Reis was initially a promising student but turned to crime as a means of financial gain. After his arrest in 1925, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. His case remains a significant example of forgery and fraud in Portugal's financial history.
