Alveolar Proteinosis
Alveolar Proteinosis is a rare lung condition characterized by the accumulation of a protein-rich substance in the air sacs, or alveoli, of the lungs. This buildup interferes with normal gas exchange, leading to symptoms such as difficulty breathing, cough, and fatigue. The exact cause is often unknown, but it can be associated with autoimmune diseases or exposure to certain environmental factors.
Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests like CT scans and lung biopsies to confirm the presence of the proteinaceous material. Treatment options may include bronchoalveolar lavage, a procedure to wash out the excess protein, and in some cases, medications to address underlying causes or symptoms.
