Alutiiq
The Alutiiq are an Indigenous people from the coastal regions of southern Alaska. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional practices in hunting, fishing, and gathering. The Alutiiq language, also called Alutiiq or Sugpiaq, is part of the Eskimo-Aleut language family and is still spoken by some community members today.
Historically, the Alutiiq relied on the abundant resources of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding lands. They crafted tools and clothing from materials like seal and whale blubber, and their art often reflects the natural environment. Today, the Alutiiq continue to celebrate their traditions while adapting to modern life.
