Alteplase
Alteplase is a medication used to dissolve blood clots in conditions such as acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), ischemic stroke, and pulmonary embolism. It is a type of thrombolytic agent that works by breaking down fibrin, a protein that helps form clots, thereby restoring blood flow to affected areas.
Administered intravenously, Alteplase is most effective when given shortly after the onset of symptoms. However, it carries risks, including bleeding complications, so careful patient selection and monitoring are essential during treatment.
