Alphonsus Liguori
Alphonsus Liguori was an Italian bishop, theologian, and founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorists. Born on September 27, 1696, in Marianella, Naples, he became known for his deep spirituality and commitment to pastoral care. He was canonized as a saint by Pope Gregory XVI in 1839 and is recognized as a Doctor of the Church for his significant contributions to moral theology.
Liguori authored numerous works, including the popular book "The Glories of Mary," which reflects his devotion to the Virgin Mary. He emphasized the importance of God's mercy and the need for a compassionate approach to moral issues. His feast day is celebrated on August 1, and he is the patron saint of confessors and moral theologians.
