Alphabetic
The term "alphabetic" refers to a system of writing that uses letters to represent sounds in a language. In an alphabetic system, each letter corresponds to a specific phoneme, allowing for the formation of words. This contrasts with logographic systems, where symbols represent whole words or concepts.
Most modern languages, such as English, Spanish, and French, use alphabetic scripts. The Latin alphabet, which consists of 26 letters, is one of the most widely used alphabetic systems globally. Alphabetic writing enables efficient communication and literacy, making it easier to learn and teach languages.
