Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt
Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt was born on July 29, 1861, in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She was the first wife of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States. Alice was known for her intelligence and vivacious personality, and she married Theodore in 1886.
Tragically, Alice passed away on February 14, 1884, just two days after giving birth to their only child, Alice Roosevelt. Her death deeply affected Theodore, who famously wrote in his diary that it was the "saddest day" of his life. Alice's legacy continues through her daughter, who became a prominent socialite and political figure.
