Alfred Packer
Alfred Packer was an American prospector who became infamous for his involvement in a cannibalism case in the late 19th century. In 1874, he led a group of five men into the Colorado wilderness during a gold-seeking expedition. After a harsh winter, only Packer emerged alive, leading to suspicions about the fate of the others.
Packer was arrested and tried for murder, claiming self-defense and that the men had died from starvation. His story sparked public interest and controversy, and he was ultimately convicted of manslaughter. The case remains a notable part of Colorado history and folklore.
