Alfonso II
Alfonso II was a king of the Kingdom of Asturias in the early Middle Ages, ruling from 791 to 842. He is known for his efforts to consolidate and expand his kingdom during a time of conflict with the Muslim forces in the Iberian Peninsula. His reign marked a significant period in the Christian Reconquista, as he sought to strengthen Christian territories.
Under Alfonso II, the capital was moved to Oviedo, which became an important cultural and political center. He is also credited with promoting the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, which later became a major religious route in Europe.
