Alf Wight
Alf Wight, better known by his pen name James Herriot, was a British veterinarian and author born on October 3, 1916, in Sunderland, England. He is famous for his series of books that depict his experiences as a country vet in the Yorkshire Dales, blending humor and compassion in his storytelling. His most notable works include All Creatures Great and Small, which has been adapted into television series and films.
Wight studied veterinary medicine at Glasgow University and graduated in 1939. After serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II, he returned to his veterinary practice in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. His writings have inspired many and contributed to a greater appreciation for the veterinary profession. Wight passed away on April 23, 1995.
