Alf Landon
Alf Landon was an American politician and businessman, best known for being the Republican candidate for President in the 1936 election. Born on September 9, 1887, in Pennsylvania, he served as the Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. Landon was a moderate Republican who focused on social welfare programs during his governorship.
In the 1936 presidential election, Landon ran against the incumbent President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was a Democrat. Despite his efforts to appeal to voters, Landon lost the election in a landslide, winning only two states. After his defeat, he continued to be active in politics and public service until his death on October 12, 1987.
