Akashi Strait
The Akashi Strait is a narrow body of water located in Japan, separating the islands of Honshu and Awaji. It connects the Seto Inland Sea to the Osaka Bay and is approximately 15 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide at its narrowest point. The strait is known for its strong tidal currents and plays a significant role in maritime navigation in the region.
The Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, also known as the Pearl Bridge, spans the Akashi Strait and is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Completed in 1995, it connects the city of Kobe on Honshu to Awaji Island, facilitating transportation and trade. The strait is also a popular area for fishing and recreational activities.
