African Union Mission in Somalia
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is a regional peacekeeping mission established in 2007 to support the Somali government in restoring peace and stability. It was created in response to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Somalia, primarily caused by the militant group Al-Shabaab. AMISOM's mandate includes protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian efforts, and assisting in the training of Somali security forces.
AMISOM is composed of troops from various African countries, including Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The mission has played a crucial role in combating terrorism and facilitating political processes in Somalia. Over the years, AMISOM has helped to secure key areas, allowing for the establishment of a more stable government and the delivery of essential services to the Somali people.
