African Sacred Ibis
The African Sacred Ibis is a large wading bird found in wetlands across Africa. It has a distinctive long, curved bill and predominantly white plumage, with black feathers on its head, neck, and wings. This bird typically measures about 65 to 75 centimeters in length and is known for its graceful flight and social behavior, often seen in flocks.
Historically, the African Sacred Ibis held significant importance in ancient Egyptian culture, where it was associated with the god Thoth, the deity of wisdom and writing. These birds primarily feed on insects, crustaceans, and small fish, using their long bills to probe in mud and shallow water.
