Aerotow
Aerotow is a method used to launch gliders or sailplanes into the air. In this process, a powered aircraft, known as a tow plane, is connected to the glider using a strong rope or cable. Once the tow plane takes off, it pulls the glider into the sky, allowing it to gain altitude before the glider pilot releases the tow line to fly independently.
This technique is popular in the sport of gliding because it allows for efficient and controlled launches. Aerotow can reach higher altitudes compared to other methods, such as winch launching, making it a preferred choice for many pilots.
