Aerofoils
Aerofoils, also known as airfoils, are specially shaped structures designed to generate lift when air flows over them. They are commonly used in aircraft wings, propellers, and wind turbine blades. The shape of an aerofoil allows for a difference in air pressure above and below the surface, which creates lift, enabling flight.
The design of an aerofoil is crucial for its performance. Factors such as the angle of attack, thickness, and curvature influence how effectively it can generate lift and reduce drag. Engineers study these characteristics to optimize aerofoils for various applications, including aircraft, helicopters, and bicycles.
