Aegidius of Assisi
Aegidius of Assisi, also known as Saint Giles, was a prominent figure in the early Franciscan movement. Born in the late 12th century in Assisi, Italy, he was a close companion of Saint Francis of Assisi. Aegidius played a significant role in spreading the teachings and values of the Franciscan order, emphasizing poverty, humility, and service to others.
He is often recognized for his dedication to a life of prayer and contemplation. Aegidius later became the first minister of the Franciscan Order in France, where he helped establish several communities and promote the Franciscan way of life. His contributions significantly shaped the growth of the order during its formative years.
