Adulation
Adulation is an excessive form of praise or flattery directed towards someone, often to the point of being insincere. It can occur in various contexts, such as in celebrity culture, where fans may idolize figures like actors or musicians beyond reasonable admiration. This behavior can sometimes lead to unrealistic expectations and pressure on the person being adored.
While adulation can boost someone's self-esteem temporarily, it may also create a disconnect between the individual and their true self. Over time, constant adulation can lead to a lack of genuine feedback, making it difficult for the person to grow or improve.
