Adrenalectomy
Adrenalectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one or both of the adrenal glands, which are located on top of each kidney. These glands produce hormones that regulate various bodily functions, including metabolism, immune response, and stress management. The surgery is often performed to treat conditions such as tumors, hyperaldosteronism, or Cushing's syndrome.
The procedure can be done using traditional open surgery or minimally invasive techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery. Recovery time varies, but patients may need to stay in the hospital for a few days. Hormone replacement therapy may be necessary if both glands are removed.
