Adeliza of Louvain
Adeliza of Louvain was a medieval noblewoman born around 1103 in Louvain, present-day Belgium. She was the daughter of Godfrey I, Duke of Brabant and became the second wife of Henry I of England in 1121. Their marriage strengthened ties between England and the Low Countries.
After Henry I's death in 1135, Adeliza did not remarry and chose to live a life of relative seclusion. She was known for her charitable works and support of religious institutions, including the founding of Reading Abbey. Adeliza passed away around 1151, leaving a legacy of piety and generosity.
