Adelaide of Maurienne
Adelaide of Maurienne was a noblewoman born around 1020 in the region of Maurienne, located in present-day France. She was the daughter of Count Humbert I of Maurienne and Gisela of Burgundy. Adelaide became known for her piety and charitable works, which earned her a reputation as a saintly figure in her community.
In 1046, she married Hugh of France, the future king, which strengthened the ties between the House of Maurienne and the French monarchy. After her husband's death, Adelaide dedicated her life to religious pursuits and was later venerated as a saint, with her feast day celebrated on April 16.
