Acordo Ortográfico
The Acordo Ortográfico is an agreement aimed at standardizing the Portuguese language's spelling across different countries. Implemented in 2009, it seeks to unify the written form of Portuguese used in Portugal, Brazil, and other Portuguese-speaking nations, making it easier for speakers to communicate and understand each other.
The agreement introduced changes such as the elimination of certain silent letters and the simplification of some rules. While it has been adopted by many countries, its implementation has faced resistance, particularly in Portugal, where some people prefer traditional spelling.
