Achelous River
The Achelous River is one of the longest rivers in Greece, flowing approximately 220 kilometers. It originates in the Pindus mountain range and empties into the Ionian Sea. The river is known for its rich biodiversity and has been an important water source for agriculture in the region.
Historically, the Achelous River was significant in ancient Greek mythology, often associated with the river god Achelous. The river's waters were believed to have healing properties, and it played a role in various myths, including the story of Heracles and the defeat of the river god in a contest for the love of Deianira.
