Abdulla Yameen is a Maldivian politician who served as the President of the Maldives from November 2013 to February 2018. He is a member of the Progressive Party of Maldives and is known for his controversial leadership style and policies during his presidency. Yameen is the half-brother of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who ruled the Maldives for 30 years.
During his time in office, Yameen faced criticism for his government's crackdown on dissent and the judiciary's independence. His administration was marked by allegations of corruption and human rights abuses, leading to his eventual defeat in the 2018 presidential election to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
