The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, commonly known as AFTRA, was a labor union representing professionals in the television, radio, and digital media industries. Founded in 1937, it aimed to protect the rights and interests of its members, including actors, announcers, and other media professionals, by negotiating contracts and ensuring fair working conditions. In 2012, AFTRA merged with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to form the SAG-AFTRA union. This merger expanded the union's reach and resources, allowing it to better advocate for its members in an evolving entertainment landscape. Today, SAG-AFTRA continues to support artists and media professionals across various platforms.
