AFI, or the American Film Institute, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of American cinema. Founded in 1967, it aims to educate and inspire filmmakers and audiences through various programs, including film preservation, education, and public screenings. AFI is well-known for its lists, such as the AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies, which highlights the greatest American films.
In addition to its preservation efforts, AFI operates the AFI Conservatory, a graduate film school that trains aspiring filmmakers in various disciplines, including directing, screenwriting, and producing. The institute also hosts the annual AFI Fest, a film festival that showcases new works and celebrates cinematic achievements.
