433 Eros
433 Eros is a large asteroid located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is classified as an S-type asteroid, which means it is primarily composed of silicate rock and metal. Eros has a diameter of about 16.8 kilometers (10.4 miles) and is known for its elongated shape, resembling a peanut.
Discovered in 1898 by the astronomer Carl Gustav Witt, Eros is notable for being one of the first asteroids to be visited by a spacecraft. The NEAR Shoemaker mission, launched by NASA, successfully orbited and landed on Eros in 2001, providing valuable data about its surface and composition.
